A woman’s baby bump pictures look cute, however, she is expected to bounce back into shape immediately after the baby’s birth. Most people have no idea what a woman’s tummy looks like post birth. We think it flattens back like an empty sac!
Elise Grossman from Australia took it upon herself to spread body positivity by posting her own image after the birth of her third daughter.
She shares what a postpartum body actually looks like, with stretch marks. She admits it took her a long time to achieve this level of confidence but now she is no longer ashamed of her scars, they are a sign of how healthy and miraculous her body is.
“It’s a strange feeling to look down and still see a bump, even though you’re holding your baby in your arms.”
She had shared this photo back in July with the purpose of starting a discussion on realistic body image post the birth of a baby. She wants women like her to feel secure and proud of their bodies.
“It’s taken me three babies, but I’ve finally realised this postpartum body isn’t something to hide! I am beyond proud for what this body has given and sacralised.”
Her photo actually created an impact and people came forward to show their support and also shared their own stories.
However, some people were not comfortable with the idea of Elise sharing such a personal picture. In response to this, she shared another picture to explain her purpose and why it was necessary.
In this post, she opened up about how just like everyone else, she looked up to supermodels and celebrities who showed off their post-baby bodies and wonder what she did incorrectly.
“No one told me the reality of the fourth trimester. I had no idea you could still look so pregnant even after giving birth.”
Elise’s is an attempt at showing the reality and reducing the pressure on new mothers.
We are thankful that people like Elise exist who are giving hope and strength to women around the globe. More power to her!
